Hiking Castle Rock

This week we went with our neighbors to hike Castle Rock, which is the feature that gives our town its name. Our group consisted of Scott and I, as well as our neighbor and her 2 girls (4 and 7), and then a friend of hers with her 4 year old son. The day was perfect for it. It was warm outside, but overcasted so we were never too hot as we climbed the hill. I was excited about this hike as it would be a chance for me to play with the new lense that I had gotten for my birthday (will post on that soon). Scott was very impressive on the hike. Not only was he patient with the kids (even the girls) he was very educational for that too. He pointed about different spots of errosion as well as expain what it is and how it happens, animals that we saw along the trail, and even
a bit about rock types. That's my little scientist! While we were hikiing up one of the girls (our 4 year old) slipped and reddened her elbow a bit. She was quite shaken up over the little spill. Well Scott had packed his first aid pack that he had gotten at a boy scout meeting when
we taught them their first aid requirements. So he put a band aid on her elbow to help her feel a bit better.
At the top of the hill we were actually under neith the big rock, and around the base. Up at the top we had a great snack of strawberries, watermelon, crackers, and all kinds of yummy stuff. The area we were in was a great spot for kids to wander around, and for me to play with my camera. One of the set of pictures I've added here will be zoomed all the way in, and the other will be zoomed all the way out, to give you an idea of how far away I was when
I took them. There were lots of neat rock formations to see, and the kids all had fun climbing the differnt formations. This is a hike that will be fun to do again, but one that is best done in the cool weather!
